I’ve heard some folks comparing the plagues of Egypt with the events of the end times. So I wanted to take a look at that. Here’s what I found:
Plague 1 of Egypt — water turned into blood; fish died.
Exodus 7:19,21,25 And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”
(20) …and all the water in the Nile turned into blood.
(21) And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
(25) Seven full days passed after the Lord struck the Nile.
2nd Trumpet – Revelation 8:8-9
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
2nd vial of God’s wrath – Revelation 16:3
And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
3rd vial of God’s wrath – Revelation 16:4
And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
Plague 2 of Egypt — frogs
Exodus 8:2-4 …I will plague all your country with frogs. The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.
Plague 3 of Egypt – gnats
Exodus 8:17 …Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats in all the land of Egypt.
Plague 4 of Egypt – swarms of flies
Exodus 8:21-22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. And I will put a division between my people and your people: to morrow shall this sign be.
Plague 5 of Egypt — livestock disease
Exodus 9:6-7 And the Lord did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead.
Plague 6 of Egypt – boils
Exodus 9:9-10 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt. And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
1st vial of God’s wrath –
Revelation 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
Plague 7 of Egypt — fiery hail.
Crops smitten (flax and barley) Moses gave a warning so that those who would believe could save themselves and their cattle.
Exodus 9:18-21 Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now. Send therefore now, and gather your cattle, and all that you have in the field; for on every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down on them, and they shall die. He that feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: And he that regarded not the word of the Lord left his servants and his cattle in the field.
1st trumpet – Revelation 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast on the earth: and the third part of trees was burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
Plague 8 of Egypt — locusts
Exodus 10:4-6. …tomorrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remains for you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field: And they shall fill yourhouses, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians…
Exodus 10:14-15. And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they…they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
5th Trumpet –
Revelation 9:3-5 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he strikes a man.
Plague 9 of Egypt — darkness
Exodus 10:22-23. …and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
5th vial of God’s wrath – Revelation 16:10-11
And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
Plague 10 of Egypt – death of firstborn
Exodus 11:5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood (of a lamb), and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
So we see that there are some of the same events:
– water turned to blood
And a similar event:
But they aren’t all the same.
The most important lesson I see is: Although the Israelites were only a short distance away, God separated them and protected them from at least some (if not all) of the plagues.
